From Student to Skilled Migrant: How a Primary School Teacher Built Her Future in Australia

We were contacted by a client who dreamed of becoming a primary school teacher in Australia. Although she had some teaching experience overseas, she didn’t hold a formal qualification that met Australian standards.

She reached out to us to explore her options. After assessing her background, we recommended enrolling in a recognised teaching degree in Australia. We helped her secure admission into a two-year Master of Teaching (Primary) program and supported her throughout her student journey.

After completing her degree, we assisted her in applying for a Subclass 485 Temporary Graduate visa, which gave her the opportunity to gain local teaching experience. She soon began working as a primary school teacher in Australia—a big step forward in her career.

Knowing her long-term goal was permanent residency, we advised her that state nomination could be a viable pathway, especially as her occupation was in demand. We prepared and lodged an Expression of Interest (EOI) and a Registration of Interest (ROI) with the state of Victoria.

The timing couldn’t have been better—just as her 485 visa was nearing expiry, she received an invitation for Victoria state nomination under the Subclass 190 Skilled Nominated visa.

This case highlights how the right guidance, combined with careful planning and timing, can turn a student visa into a permanent future in Australia.
