Skilled Regional Permanent Visa Subclass 887

The Skilled Regional visa – 887 is the second stage visa giving permanent residence to holders of Skilled Regional Provisional visas such as 489: It does not require sponsorship by an Australian relative or nomination by a state or territory government.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR THIS VISA?

    Residence In a Regional Area

You and your dependents have been in Australia holding a skilled regional (provisional) visa (489) for the last 2 years. During this time, you and your dependents must have lived, worked or studied in a regional area of Australia (if sponsored by a State or Territory Government) or a Designated Area if sponsored by an Australian relative.

    Work Experience

You have worked for at least 12 months in Australia – this experience need not be in a skilled occupation, but must be full time (at least 35 hours per week) and must be in a regional area or designated area.

WHAT THIS VISA LETS YOU DO?

You can include the following family members in your application:

    • Spouse, de facto partner (including the same-sex partner)
    • Dependent children up to 23yo unless they are financially dependent on you as they are not able to work due to their physical or mental condition.

This is a permanent visa. It lets you:

    • stay in Australia indefinitely
    • work and study in Australia
    • enrol in Medicare, Australia’s scheme for health-related care and expenses
    • sponsor eligible relatives for permanent residence
    • travel to and from Australia for five years
    • apply for Australian citizenship, if eligible.

    Frequently asked questions

    • What is an Expression of Interest (EOI)?

An EOI is not a visa application, it is an application that you would like to be invited to apply for a skilled visa. It’s an online form, with no fee which asks you a series of questions about how you intend to score your points for a subclass 189, 190 or 491 visa application. It is imperative that your points are calculated accurately so that when a visa application is lodged after being granted an invitation, the points in the visa application are the same as the points claimed in the EOI. An EOI does not result in a bridging visa.

    • I have lodged an EOI. Does that mean I will get an invitation?

No, not necessarily. You must obtain a minimum of 65 points to lodge an Expression of Interest. The higher the points, the more likely it is that you will receive an invitation to lodge a visa application.

However, depending on the volume of applications with the same occupation received by the Department of Home Affairs, a higher score than 65 is usually required to be granted an invitation to lodge a visa application. As an example, accountants may require 90 points or more to be granted an invitation whereas high school teachers may only require 80 points. The way the Department of Home Affairs will issue an invitation depends on a lot of factors, which could be what occupations are in most need at that point in time, such as medical occupations in the covid – 19 era receive the most invitations.

    Client Story

    NICHOLAS YANG

Nicholas was an engineering professional in Singapore. He applied for the Skilled Migration visa and his permanent resident visa was granted on June 2012.

I was introduced to AustraliaMigrate by my sister. Prior to my application, two of my family members was engaged with AustraliaMigrate in visa applications.

What motivated me the most to carry out the visa application was my 4 siblings who are currently residing in Sydney. Initially, I tried to conduct my visa application through some company online but I deemed them to be unsuccessful due to weak and frustrating support they provide.
